What Is SEO for Electricians?

At its core, search engine optimisation (SEO) for electricians is about making your business easy to find when someone searches Google or asks an AI assistant for an electrical professional.

Our sparkie SEO campaign improves your website so Google and AI platforms understand the services you offer and where. We also provide strategies to build your reputation offsite by optimising your Google Business Profile, help you earn links and collect reviews. The result is a business that’s locally established to drive a steady flow of leads

Unlike other forms of digital marketing, electrician SEO strategies attract people who already need help installing, maintaining or repairing electrical systems. They aren’t just browsing; they’re ready to call. The only question is whether they find you or a competitor down the road.

- That’s where we come in.

The Current Competitive Online Landscape

We’re not looking to increase traffic for the sake of it. Whether you’re a sole trader or run an established electrical business, the goal is to improve your visibility and turn it into more bookings in your area.

01

Local Visibility

76% of local mobile searchers visit a related business within a day, and 28% of those searches end in a purchase. Electricians are consistently among Australia's most in-demand trades.
For an emergency search, businesses on Google's local map are often the first thing a customer sees. In competitive areas like Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, that visibility can make a real difference.
02

Trust

Most Australians check Google reviews before hiring a tradie.
Your Google profile, reviews, website and content all work as trust signals. Google uses them to rank you, and customers use them to decide whether you're worth calling.
03

Opportunity

Around 197,300 electricians work in Australia. You won't be competing with all of them for online visibility, only with those who've invested in SEO.
Plenty of competitors still have thin websites and profiles that haven't been touched in years. That means you have a real opportunity to improve yours and get ahead.

How A Modern SEO Strategy for Electricians Solves Common Challenges

Good work won’t win jobs if the right customers can’t find you. A website doesn’t automatically mean you’ll rank in search results.

Current challenges many tradies face include:

Let us give you a free consultation
  • An uncertain pipeline: Many sparkies in Australia still rely on word of mouth for work. This can cause cash flow problems and make it harder to scale a business. SEO puts you in front of people already searching for tradie, so you won't have to rely on referrals.
  • High advertising costs: Platforms like Google and Facebook ads can get pricey. Leads dry up the moment you stop paying. “Emergency Electrician Sydney”, for example, costs A$21.02 / click. SEO is the more affordable stream. Once rankings are built they keep bringing leads.
  • Less control over the jobs you get: Your current business model may only be bringing in lower-margin work. Our SEO strategies help you target higher-value jobs, like switchboard upgrades or urgent callouts.
  • A lower pull: If you don't have a strong organic footprint, potential customers won’t recognise your brand and may sidestep you. Our local SEO services for electricians bring an embedded strategy that builds trust and credibility in your area.

We'll Find You The Right Keywords

Keyword research is where every campaign starts. We find out what people search for, how often, how hard each term is to rank for, and the intent behind it. That way we can prioritise the quick wins and lay the foundations for longer-term opportunities.

We don’t just chase the biggest number. We prioritise the searches most likely to turn into booked jobs. A search with 300 people a month can be more useful than one with 20,000 if those 300 are looking for the exact service you offer.

Search Intent Is Everything

Not every search for an electrician means the same thing. Someone searching “electrician near me” is in a very different mindset from someone researching EV charger installation or looking for a commercial electrical contractor. Each one needs a different page, so we build around the intent, not just the keyword.

Urgent

  • “emergency electrician near me”
  • “24 hour electrician Sydney”
  • “electrician open now”

These searches usually come from someone who needs an electrician quickly.

You’ll need to be highly visible in local search, with information that's easy to find and understand: a phone number people can see straight away, a real address, and reviews that show you can be trusted.

Planned Work

  • “EV charger installer”
  • “switchboard upgrade”
  • “downlight installation cost”

These searches are usually more specific, with the customer deciding what they need and who they want to hire.

They'll spend a little more time researching, so deep, dedicated service pages are needed to explain the work, answer common questions, show relevant experience, and give them a clear next step.

Commercial

  • “strata electrician”
  • “emergency lighting testing”
  • “office fit-out electrician”

Businesses and property managers search for specifics: strata electricians, emergency lighting testing, office fit-outs.

This is often a bigger job with a longer decision process, so they’ll look for proof: licences, past commercial projects, compliance knowledge and an easy way to request a quote.

Our Electrician SEO Services

Many agencies bundle their service with Google Ads or web development. With Business Medics, it's the only thing we do, and we’ve spent 18+ years getting good at it. As a dedicated SEO provider for small businesses, everything is personally managed by two senior SEO specialists, who plan with you, give you clear insights and a strategy, and act as an extension of your electrical business. See how we work.

Full SEO Audit

Before we change anything, we need to know where your business stands.

We look at your website, your rankings, the work you do, the areas you cover and who you're up against, to find what's costing you calls.

What the Audit Covers

  • Review Google rankings and if AI tools cite you
  • Identify gaps based on your electrical offerings
  • Benchmark you against local competitors
  • Check technical issues and overall site health
  • Scrutinise your Google Business Profile and reviews
  • Assess service pages: what's thin or missing
  • Note quick wins in searches you could rank for
  • Rankings review
  • Website health check
  • Local visibility review

Keyword Research

Not every search is worth going after.

We analyse how people search for an electrician, and whether urgent call-outs or planned jobs are the better opportunity for your business. With this data, we build a clear plan for the services, suburbs and keywords your website needs to target.

What the Research Covers

  • Identify urgent searches like “24 hour electrician Sydney”
  • Map keywords to pages that lead to bookings for each service you offer
  • Unearth questions people ask before they're ready to book
  • Cover service and suburb combinations
  • Prioritise by search volume and opportunity
  • Understand how often people search and how competitive each term is
  • Urgent searches
  • Service opportunities
  • Local search research

Competitor Analysis

Learn from the competition.

We study the electricians ranking for the searches we’re targeting, the pages they're winning with, and what's likely helping them stay ahead.

We Look At

  • The top-ranking electricians in your area
  • How their websites and service pages are set up
  • Their Google Business Profile and reviews
  • Where their links and listings come from
  • The suburbs they cover and what they target
  • Gaps between their content and yours
  • Content gaps
  • Competitor profiles
  • Local competitor map

On-Page SEO

Every page should have a job.

We tune your page content, headings and internal links around the searches that matter, then make sure each page is useful and makes it easy to call or book.

We Look At

  • Service pages, including emergency and after-hours work
  • Suburb and area pages
  • Page titles, descriptions and headings
  • Keyword placement and content quality
  • Internal links between pages
  • Image alt text and file names
  • Mobile-friendliness and click-to-call buttons
  • Calls to action and trust signals, like licences and reviews
  • Service pages
  • Local landing pages
  • Conversion

Off-Page Optimisation

Google looks beyond your website.

Links from other sites, local listings and mentions around the web help show Google and AI tools your business is real, trusted and active. It's steady work, not a one-off job.

We Look At

  • Local business listings and trade directories
  • Consistent name, address and phone number everywhere
  • Links from relevant local and industry websites
  • Brand mentions on sites, AI tools and conversation platforms (Reddit)
  • Your presence through video
  • Your Google Business Profile
  • Your online reputation and reviews
  • Brand mentions
  • Local listings
  • Reputation

Content Strategy & Creation

People don't always search for an electrician.

In some cases, people search based on a problem they’re facing, such as: “why does my power keep tripping?” or “how much does an electrician cost?” We identify these questions and create quality copy that answers them, so they find you before they've chosen a competitor. Everything is written and planned by our senior SEO copywriter Henry Walker.

What We Do

  • Target high-value services
  • Build local area pages
  • Answer common customer questions
  • Promote 24/7 emergency support
  • Split residential and commercial offerings
  • Solve search-driven problems
  • Write copy that shows what sets you apart
  • Improve existing pages and fill gaps competitors are covering
  • Service content
  • Area pages
  • Problem-led content

Technical SEO

A great page won't help if Google can't read your site.

We find and fix the technical problems getting in the way, so your site loads fast, responds quickly when people tap, and can be crawled and understood by Google and AI tools.

We Look At

  • Site speed and Core Web Vitals
  • How the site works on a phone
  • Errors that stop pages being found
  • Sitemaps and search instructions
  • Broken links and redirects
  • Duplicate content and canonical tags
  • Site structure that groups related services and suburbs into clear topics
  • Schema markup
  • Add a 'direct-answer' format to pages, so AI platforms might quote content
  • An llms.txt file to guide AI tools around your site
  • Speed and mobile
  • Crawl fixes
  • AI-ready structure

Local SEO

For electricians, location matters.

People usually want someone who works near them. We can assist with the set-up and optimisation of your Google Business Profile, website and local SEO signals so you’re visible for the locations customers are interested in.

We Look At

  • Google Business Profile and Google Maps
  • The areas you serve
  • Local keywords
  • Suburb and area pages
  • Local listings
  • A steady flow of reviews
  • Links from local sites
  • Google Business Profile
  • Area pages
  • Reviews

Reporting & Tracking

You shouldn't need to speak SEO to know if it's working.

We show you what we've done, what's changed and where the next opportunities are.

We Look At

  • Google Search Console data
  • Views of your Google Business Profile
  • Calls from search
  • Website enquiries
  • Page visits
  • Conversions
  • Quality traffic

Local Search Is Your Secret Weapon

When someone nearby needs an electrician, you want your business to be one of the first they see.

Whether you cover a handful of Sydney suburbs, a wider Brisbane service area or regional towns, the aim is to build stronger search visibility across the suburbs and service areas that matter most to your business.

That's what our local SEO for electricians delivers. We help Google understand where your business operates, which services you offer, and how credible you are. This can influence where you appear in local map results, organic listings and other location-specific searches.

Today: you show up in the top 3 across three nearby service areas.

Google Business Profile

Your free Google listing. We set up or optimise it around your suburbs, services, hours and real job photos, and keep it current whenever your details change.

Reviews

We show you how to generate more reviews, which build trust with Google, AI platforms and local customers. We can also help you set up profiles on other review platforms to widen that credibility.

Local Citations

Our SEO specialists check and correct your business details across Google, directories and other sites. Consistent details strengthen your local signals and give search engines more evidence that you're active and trustworthy.

Location & Service Pages

Business Medics can also build pages for the suburbs, cities and regions you serve but aren't yet targeting, from individual Sydney suburbs to wider Gold Coast or regional service areas.

How It Works

Good SEO management doesn't happen all at once. A considered, phased approach ensures every step is thorough, structured, and built for long-term growth.

01

Audit

Review current rankings, site speed, Google Profile health, and local competitor positioning to see where you stand.

02

Plan

Target priority suburbs and high-margin electrical services to focus on where the biggest returns are.

03

Fix

Resolve technical issues so pages load faster, booking buttons work seamlessly, and your Google Profile is fully optimised.

04

Build

Create dedicated pages for core services and local suburbs, alongside essential directory profiles.

05

Report

Track monthly performance to measure lead wins, review incoming calls, and align on upcoming priorities.

06

Improve

Building on success, double down on high-converting keywords, and expanding reach.

SEO for Every Type of Electrician

Not all sparkies offer the same services. Specialists in solar, EV chargers or data cabling need campaigns built around that offering, not a generic strategy. Whatever your trade focus, we build the campaign around it.

Domestic Electricians

Homeowners need help with everything from switchboard faults to renovations. Local SEO helps you build visibility for the suburbs and domestic services you want more of.

Commercial Contractors

Builders and strata property managers need scale and proof. We build dedicated pages with detailed content that proves your experience.

Emergency & 24/7 Electricians

For emergency and 24/7 work, the priority is being found first and reached fast when someone needs urgent help.

Specialist Electricians

Home batteries, smart home automation, security systems and backup power are high-ticket installs. Dedicated pages help you attract customers searching for those exact services.

New Market Entrants & Expanding Crews

Expanding into a new suburb? Don't wait for word-of-mouth to catch up. Build your local search presence early so enquiries are coming in when you launch.

Industrial Electricians

Industrial work means bigger contracts and more specific requirements. Targeted pages help manufacturers, warehouses and facilities managers find you for specialist electrical work.

We Also Optimise for AI Search

The way people search online for tradies is continuously evolving. They aren't just typing keywords into Google anymore. They're also asking questions in AI tools like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini, and looking for real opinions on Reddit and YouTube. We build this into our SEO campaigns, so as AI continues to fragment organic search, we make sure these tools find it easier to find your website and use it in their answers.

Structured Schema Code

Schema is code that labels your business details for search engines, taking the guesswork out for AI systems. It gives them clear information about your services, licensing, opening hours and service areas.

Direct-Answer Content

We structure key service pages so each one opens with a clear answer that satisfies the searcher's intent, followed by the detail. This makes your content easier for AI tools to understand and cite.

Local Trust Signals

Consistent business details across the web build trust and helps reinforce who you are, what you do and where you operate. This means ensuring all local citations, your Google Business Profile and website all display the same information so they complement each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Until I Get More Enquiries?

In most cases, SEO takes a few months to take effect. Google needs time to process changes, and the first month is mostly planning, such as keyword research. Clients typically start seeing movement from around three to six months, with bigger changes building over the first year. Timing depends on how much time you invest in your SEO, how solid your site's foundations are and how well optimised your competitors are.

How Much Does SEO for an Electrician Cost?

We offer three standard SEO packages, starting from $1,200 a month. We also offer a flexible hourly package, where you choose how many hours to pay for. We recommend at least 6 hours a month for it to make a meaningful impact. The right amount of work depends on your website, the services you're targeting and the competition.

Do I Need a New Website?

Not necessarily, and we’ll avoid it as much as we can. We aren’t a web dev agency and have no incentive to push you in that direction. Instead, we'll look at the one you've got first to see if the fixes can be done there. If the site itself is holding the SEO back, we'll let you know, and discuss further from there.

I'm a One-Van Business. Is It Worth It?

Sure! SEO can still be worth it for a small business. If you cover a small area and mainly want a few specific types of jobs, there's no reason to build the same campaign as a large electrical contractor covering half a city. We'll focus on the searches that are relevant to you.

I Don't Do EV or Battery Work Yet. Should It Be on My Site?

Only if you want customers looking for those things. If you plan to start offering EV chargers, batteries or another service, getting the page live early can give it time to establish before you're relying on it for leads.

Do You Guarantee First-Page Rankings?

Google doesn't guarantee rankings, and neither should any SEO company. The electrical industry is competitive, and rankings have to be earned. Google also says there's no way to pay for a better local ranking (Google Business Profile Help). We can research the market, fix problems, build the right pages and track what happens. We can't control Google's results.

Can I Cancel Whenever I Want?

Yes. There's no lock-in contract. Just bear in mind that SEO isn't something you can build in a month and expect to keep if you stop immediately. The work needs time to compound on itself.

Can You Take Over from My Current SEO Provider?

Sure. We'll look at what's already been done, what's working and what needs changing.

Do You Offer SEO for Electrical Businesses Outside Sydney?

Yes. We're based in Sydney but work with electricians in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, the Gold Coast and regional areas across Australia.

Does SEO for Electrical Contractors Work for Commercial and Industrial Jobs?

Yes. While the searches and customers differ from residential work, our approach stays the same: we build the campaign around the commercial or industrial work you actually want.
